POSITION:  PSR Worker
         
REPORTS TO:  Clinical Director or licensed clinical mental health professional with a minimum credential of MFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist

SUMMARY:
The PSR Worker is responsible for delivery of quality, timely and professional treatment services to the clients of HBI.  He or she provides direct and indirect clinical services within the scope of licensure, certification, education and experience.  He or she functions as a team member.  He or she transmits the goals and mission of HBI in a professional and ethical manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in psychology or counseling psychology or related field; or BA degree with at least 2 years equivalent experience performing the responsibilities described below.
  • Experience in providing psychosocial rehab and skill training to individuals, adolescents, children, adults, families and groups in a clinical setting. 
  • Facility with DSM III-R and DSM IV. 
  • Ability to work as a team member and under the supervision of a licensed clinician.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide psychosocial rehab and basic skills training to individuals, children, adolescents, and families.
  • PSR services consist of the following components:
    • Independent living services
    • Case management
    • Employment-related activities
    • Educational services
    • Coordination with health professionals and county agencies
    • Housing-related services
    • Social activities and communication
  • Primary Guidelines
    • Services are social or behavioral in nature rather than medical
    • Emphasis is on client strength rather than pathology
    • Emphasis is on here and now rather than the past
    • Services are unique to the individual to address specific issues
    • Services are rendered by a trained PSR worker with a treatment plan initiated and directed by a licensed clinical mental health professional with a minimum credential of MFT, LCSW, or Licensed Psychologist.
    • Individuals can only concentrate on improving and learning one to two skills at a time.  Therefore, support must be provided to address the deficit until the individual masters the current target skills.
    • Stacking is not recommended, that is, mixing Skills Training and PSR at the same time.
    • Providing services by two separate clinical entities is not recommended
    • PSR Services teaches psychological and behavioral skills on:
      • Anger Management
        • Identifying antecedents to anger i.e. rejection, abandonment, past hurts, etc.
        • Handling criticism properly
        • Thinking before acting
        • Avoiding emotionally-charged situations
      • Problem Identification and Resolution
        • Identifying problems and finding solutions that require complex interventions
        • Relying on one’s self for problem solving
      • Effective Communication
        • Learning how to listen to others and convey their own wants and needs effectively
        • Respecting others’ boundaries and understanding how to set limits
      • Life Skills Building
        • Setting realistic and specific goals, whether academically, vocational, independent living, or interpersonal
        • Self-reliance and self-confidence
        • Establishing a healthy emotional connection with others, whether it is through friendship, parent-child, or emotional intimacy
        • Knowing right from wrong, what is socially acceptable and what is not
      • Medication Compliance
        • Understanding why medication (whether medical or psychiatric) is needed and how to take it properly
  • Provide indirect services.
  • Provide on-call services on a rotating schedule for all HBI clients.
  • Provide on-call services for own caseload.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision.
  • Obtain or maintain licensure and/or certification in good standing.
  • Participate as a team member in a professional and cohesive manner, sharing expertise whenever possible.
  • Comply with all HBI goals and policies.
  • Provide other duties as required.
