Katherine Z. Souza, PhD, MFT

Regional Clinical Director

Dr. Katherine Z. Souza is the Regional Clinical Director for our Reno office. She earned a Master’s degree in Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1997 from the University of Nevada Reno and her PhD in Counseling from Oregon State University in 2001. She has a breadth of experience which includes working in state government, non-profit organizations, inpatient hospitals, residential settings, outpatient clinics and private practice.

Dr. Souza has served on Boards for CASA of Washoe County, Nevada Rural Children’s Mental Health Consortium, a Behavioral Health Coalition in Las Cruces, NM, and was a Storey County Domestic Violence Task Force member. She excels in clinical leadership and training, program, fiscal and personnel management, long-range organizational visioning, and community outreach. Dr. Souza has clinical expertise in working with clients ages 2-100. She has presented research at regional, national and international conferences.

Dr. Souza taught in the counseling departments for Oregon State University, St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA, and the University of Nevada Reno. She is a member of the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapists (AAMFT), Nevada Association of Play Therapists, and is an approved Clinical Supervisor credentialed by the AAMFT. Dr. Souza has a 15-year-old daughter, and a beloved Cocker Spaniel. She has enjoyed traveling to England, Italy, Mexico and Africa. She hikes, bikes, loves rural Nevada, watching movies and eating out.

Psychosocial Rehabilitative Team

Under the direction of the counselors, Human Behavior Institute’s PSR Team implements rehabilitative services such as psychosocial rehab and skills training to individuals who need those types of services at home, based on their individualized treatment plan.
